CONGRATULATIONS TO THE REBUILDERS

We are excited to announce that the Rebuilder Slate at Local 1101 won their elections today by a LANDSLIDE. This sends a clear message to all that change in leadership is necessary and wanted by the rank-and-file to protect our future. Our union needs visionaries to help lead us into the future, and the Rebuilders is a group that will truly lead our union in the right direction. Keith Purce, Kevin Condy, Mike Baxter, Al Russo, Pat LaScala and all the others are committed and dedicated to the future of our union, not just doing what is good for today. We have met them and stood shoulder to shoulder with them. They know the challenges that our union is faced with and they understand that the future of the union is in jeopardy right now. The Rebuiders strive to make our union STRONGER in the future, not weaker as is our destiny under the current circumstances. We will continue to support them and welcome their support as we all fight to insure the future of our union.

Both Petitions Were Officially Submitted Wednesday 11/09/11

CWA District 1 Rep. John Feaster accepted both petitions Wednesday. The Petitions were presented on behalf of all members by Tim Otano, Local 1104; John "Bugz" Ramirez, Local 1103; and Louis Calemine, Local 1106.

Our Group's Petition was signed by 103 laid-off members along with 950 signatures on the Active Member Petition. A big thanks goes out to all of the 950 currently employed CWA members who have stood-up alongside us to be heard. We owe a great deal of respect to the many stewards and chiefs who aided us in gathering those 950 signatures. They stand with us and we stand with them. We all stand together.

ELECTION RESULTS:

Congratulations to the NEW Secretary-Treasurer of CWA Local 1106, Frank Tellerini. Frank is a man of his word and will fight the fight while keeping all of us in mind. We applaud his landslide victory in Monday's election and are confident that Local 1106 and The CWA are better-off today than yesterday. Now we need The Rebuilders Slate to do do the same in next  week's elections in Local 1101. The Rebuilders has shown Our Group tremendous support from the moment we began to organize and has proven to be forward-thinking and dedicated to its mission. A Rebuilers victory in next week's 1101 elections will be a victory for all CWA members.

WHO WE ARE:

We are 130 (and counting) of the 203 union members laid-off by Verizon in 2009. Over the last month we have organized ourselves into a group to insure that our issues are heard by Verizon and The CWA.

OUR ISSUES:

Verizon unjustifiably laid us off in 2009. Under the terms of the layoff, Verizon is not allowed to hire “off the street” until 2 years after the layoff (11/19/2011) unless we are first recalled to work. Verizon started hiring “off the street” in September 2011, two months before the recall date expiration. Verizon is clearly violating our recall rights under our Collective Bargaining Agreement.

OUR PLAN OF ACTION: To be decided and shared by members of Our Group who register on our website.

FACTS:

Verizon is currently hiring people for jobs that are first supposed to be offered to us laid-off workers.

-Verizon continues to be an extremely profitable corporation with plenty of work that needs to be done in our area.

-While we have been laid-off for almost 2 years, during terrible economic times, Verizon employees routinely work overtime to handle the enormous work-load.

-Verizon laid us off not because of financial strains, but simply because it wanted to cut costs at a time when the top 5 executives took home record breaking salaries.

-Over the last 4 years, the top 5 executives have been paid more than $250 MILLION. Just to keep it in perspective, us 200 laid-off middle class employees PUT TOGETHER earned about $15 million per year at Verizon.

-Every word spoken on a Verizon cell phone and every program watched on FiOS travels on a land-line cable at some point. LAND-LINE IS RELEVANT.

-Verizon seeks to eliminate union jobs. Verizon is either arrogantly or ignorantly helping to destroy America’s middle class.
